Which New Motability Cars Can You Expect To See In Showrooms In 2020? Our Guide Reveals All.

Posted on 30th Jul 2019 | Updated 24th Sep 2021

The next 12 months or so promises to be an exciting time for the UK motor industry. As mainstream car manufacturers start to roll out their electrification strategy, more and more new plug-in Hybrid and 100% electric models will start to appear in car showrooms alongside conventional petrol and diesel engine vehicles. How many of these will join the Motability Scheme in 2020 remains to be seen, but hopefully the arrival of a range of new plug-in Hybrid and fully electric models like the new Peugeot e-208, the new Vauxhall Corsa-e and the new Ford Puma SUV will mean more choice for Motability customers in 2020.

  • New 2020 Audi A3

New Motability Cars For 2020 | Which Mobility Car 2020 | MotaClarity (2)

The outgoing A3 is the oldest car in the Audi range, but it looks like the changes for this new A3 hatchback don't appear to be very revolutionary. It certainly looks very similar to the previous version, but at 1,820mm wide and over 4,000 from nose to tail this new A3 has grown a fair bit. Most of the improvements are on the inside, with a huge new 10.1-inch touchscreen display and Audi's virtual co*ckpit is available as an optional extra.

A saloon version has also been announced, but no 3 door version is planned.

  • New 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

As the popularity of two-door cars continues to dwindle, BMW has decided to expand the 2 Series range with a new four-door Gran Coupe model. The Gran Coupe will share its platform with the all-new 1 Series, offering Motability customers more sportiness but with extra practicality. The 2 Series Gran Coupe recently won the 'Most Beautiful Car Of The Year' award at the 35th Automobile International Festival in Paris.

  • New 2020 Ford Puma SUV

New Motability Cars For 2020 | Which Mobility Car 2020 | MotaClarity (5)

This is the car that Ford is planning on replacing the EcoSport with. The new compact crossover has SUV-styling, a raised ride height, bigger wheel arches and rugged exterior body protection. Much of the mechanics of this SUV will come from the Fiesta, including the 1.0 litre EcoBoost and a diesel engine, but the Puma will be longer, higher and wider than the Fiesta with a 95mm longer wheelbase.

  • New 2020 Ford Kuga SUV

The new, third-generation Ford Kuga shares its underpinnings with the very well received 2019 Focus, and boasts significant gains in terms of its internal space (it'll have class-leading rear legroom), safety equipment, connectivity (wireless phone charging comes as standard) and quality. There will also a PHEV hybrid model available.

  • New 2020 Honda E

EV's are all very worthy but they often lack any kind of 'want one' factor. Here's one though that many Motability customers will really covet - the all-new Honda e. It's a small urban car that doesn't go particularly far on a single charge when compared to the competition, but its an incredibly cool one with lots of showroom wow factor thanks to its quirky exterior and two 12-inch interior screens that sit at the centre of the dash.

In many ways the Honda e redefines what a full-electric city car can be.

  • New 2020 Mazda CX-30 SUV

The new Mazda CX-30 is a compact crossover that Mazda say will fit between the CX-3 and CX-5 in the Mazda SUV range. It’s based on the new Mazda 3, and the two cars share plenty of styling features. The new CX-30 SUV has a sporty stance, but it also looks rugged thanks to its black oversized wheel arches and trim.

  • New 2020 Nissan Juke SUV

The current Nissan Juke is the car that created the compact crossover segment when it was released in 2010. The new Nissan Juke will sit on the new Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-B platform, which is also used by the new Renault Clio and the second-generation Renault Captur, meaning the new Juke will be available with plug-in Hybrid technology. There may even be a fully electric Juke at some point. The new platform should increase the overall size of the new Juke, giving passengers in the back much more room and the car an increased boot capacity.

  • New 2020 Nissan Qashqai SUV

The next-generation Nissan Qashqai is an incredibly important car for Nissan and Motability as it's consistently one of the biggest sellers on the Motability Scheme. The new Qashqai will probably ditch the diesel engine option (although this hasn't been confirmed), and only be available to order with either a petrol engine or as a plug-in Hybrid. A 100% electric version is thought to still be under discussion.

  • New 2020 Peugeot e-208

New Motability Cars For 2020 | Which Mobility Car 2020 | MotaClarity (6)

The all-new Peugeot 208 should land with dealers late in 2019, with the 100% electric e-208 arriving soon after in the spring of 2020. The e-208 will share its looks with the petrol and diesel versions, but with no CO2 emissions, an expected range of over 200 miles and fast charging options this car could be a popular option for Motability users if the Advance Payment is sensible.

New Motability Cars For 2020 | Which Mobility Car 2020 | MotaClarity (7)

The Peugeot 2008 is Peugeots smallest SUV available through the Motability Scheme, and the current version has always been up against some serious competition. It’s a popular car and a strong-seller for Peugeot, so the new version is an important car for them. The all-new 2020 Peugeot 2008 will feature a raft of impressive improvements over its predecessor, including the option of a 100% electric and Hybrid powertrain alongside traditional petrol and diesel engines. The electric model is expected to have a range of around 200 miles.

  • New 2020 Renault Captur SUV

The current Renault Captur has been around since 2013, so this popular model from the French carmaker is clearly ready for an overhaul. This new second generation model will borrow much of its styling from the new Clio and is expected to be a little larger than the model it replaces. The biggest changes will be under the skin, thanks to a new platform that will reduce weight and allow the new Captur to feature a brand new plug-in Hybrid powertrain.

  • New 2020 Skoda Citigo e iV

If you want an affordable electric supermini with tiny running costs then the new Skoda CITYGOe iV could well be the Motability car for you when it arrives in 2020. The new CITYGOe iV, which is similar in many ways to the Volkswagen e-up! and the SEAT Mii Electric (both of which are also due for release in 2020) has an 82 BHP electric motor and a 36 kWh battery that should be able to cover around 160 miles on a single charge.

We think it's good-looking compact car that should be well priced and, for the right owner, it'll be extremely frugal and great for zipping around town.

The next Mokka will include a new 100% electric variant which is expected to be launched at the same time as the new petrol and diesel versions. A fully digitalised cabin is also promised.

Vauxhall have also confirmed that the new car will lose the ‘X’ suffix, meaning the models official name will change from Mokka X to just Mokka.

The Vauxhall Grandland X Hybrid4 SUV will use a petrol engine and electric power to deliver what Vauxhall claims will be a total output of 300bhp and CO2 emissions of just 49g/km. It promises to offer an appealing blend of performance and efficiency, with a potential range of around 30 miles when driven on electric alone. Vauxhall have yet to announce the pricing for the new Grandland X Hybrid4, so we’ll have to wait a little while to see if this car will be available to order through the Motability Scheme in 2020.

  • New 2020 Volkswagen Golf

The new version of the Volkswagen Golf – first launched way back in 1974 – will land with VW dealers in 2020 as a five-door only model with new mild-hybrid engine options and loads of clever new tech. The styling of the new eighth-generation Golf is very familiar (albeit with a clearly revised new front end) but it’s on the inside where it has changed the most, with a smart new infotainment touchscreen, digital co*ckpit and new safety features. Engine wise, expect new 48V mild hybrids petrol engines and a revised GTE-badged plug-in hybrid.
