Penalties due to expired or late car registration can range from Php 2,000 to a whopping Php 10,000 with a possibility of getting your car impounded. Scheduling your next motor vehicle registration is actually simpler than expected thanks to the agency’s systematic approach. Your license plate isn’t just random numbers and letters put up by LTO to provide unique identifications. Certain numbers actually represent the corresponding date you should register your motor vehicle.

So say your plate number is ABC 1234. You are required to register your motor vehicle in April (since the last number is 4) between the 1st to 7th day of the month (since the 2nd to the last digit is 3). This regulation applies to any form or configuration of all plate numbers.

Statement from DOTr in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, LTO has implemented safety protocols in its offices causing long queues. For this reason, LTO has extended the validity of vehicle registration for 30 days. As such, if your schedule is in August, your vehicle registration schedule is now adjusted to September. No penalties and surcharge shall be collected for renewal transactions within the revised schedules.

1. Can I transfer my next registration to other LTO branch?

Yes, you can completely transfer your next registration to other LTO branch. However, you have to note that you will be charged Php 100 for Change of Venue (COV) of your motor vehicle registration. It’s not much but it’s good to know so you won’t get short on cash.

  • Original Affidavit of loss/mutilation
  • Certified True Copy of CR/Original CR
  • Certified True Copy of CR/Original OR of the latest payment of MVUC and other fees
  • Duly accomplished and approved Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
  • Proof of Payment (OR) for the cost of replacement plate/duplicate plate/lost sticker
  • (In case of For Hire MVs) Certification from LTFRB that plates have not been surrendered
  • (In case of sole proprietorship) Secretary’s Certificate in case of MV is in the name of a corporation or DTI certificate
  • PNP-HPG clearance
