No a male nurse in a the same role as Sister would generally be known as Charge Nurse.
TwoTierStollen · 25/06/2019 16:27

Matron is for women and men though. You would think it would be patron? These sort of things keep me awake too.

Hang on, I'm googling.

Are they 'Mister' ....?
BettysLeftTentacle · 25/06/2019 16:30
I don’t know of any Patrons/male matrons in our very large Trust which is a bit sad

Can female surgeons not just be Ms/Miss/Mrs?
Bloody hate people shouting Mrs at me though.

Usual title ie Miss, Ms or Mrs
BettysLeftTentacle · 25/06/2019 16:31
Female surgeons are usually Miss even if they are married but the can choose Mrs or Ms if they want, Miss is traditional though.
BettysLeftTentacle · 25/06/2019 16:32

Female surgeons are Ms, Miss or Mrs. I had a female urologist she was Ms
Mrsjayy · 25/06/2019 16:34
Actually she was lovely and said just call me Evelyn
Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/06/2019 16:35
We have a male Matron.
Also, no Sisters, only charge nurses, male and female across the hospital, only female on my ward though.
AbGonk · 25/06/2019 16:35
If I were a doctor, I'd want to be called Dr Gonk, not Mrs Gonk because I was surgeon too. Or is there a bit of inverse snobbery?
CmdrCressidaDuck · 25/06/2019 16:36
As PP say female surgeons are Miss or Ms. My SIL goes by Miss although she is married.

Had I got myself into and through medical school, I'd have DR tattooed on my forehead!

There definitely is @AbGonk. The surgeons I work with would really not like being called Dr.........

Surgeons used to undertake an apprenticeship in the UK rather than a degree like physicians, and were therefore not eligible to be called "doctor" as they had not earned a doctorate. Now of course they do and are, and it's purely a traditional designation. Being a surgeon is prestigious though so I don't think they feel too bad about it when they get to go back to "Miss" from "Dr"
Stravapalava · 25/06/2019 16:40
AbGonk - the "Mr" title for a surgeon is seen as "better" than Dr. Same when a Dr becomes a Prof. They're all about the Prof!
GeraldineFangedVagine · 25/06/2019 16:41
Sometimes when surgeons get all arsey with me at work about their prefixes I insist they call me staff nurse aubergine, rather than Geraldine. Nurses don’t tend to be hung up on names really.
